Transactional Analysis (TA) Psychotherapy

Transactional Analysis (TA) Psychotherapy was developed by Dr Eric Berne in the 1950’s, and is based on three philosophical tenets: First, that people are fundamentally OK. Second, that everyone (apart from the severely brain-damaged) has the capacity to think. And third, that people decide on their own destiny and those decisions can be changed. A core theory in TA is the Ego State model, which comprises the Parent, Adult, and Child parts of a person’s personality structure. Other clinical applications may also involve Script Analysis, Strokes, Structural Analysis, Game Analysis, and Life Positions. Using these approaches, TA seeks to help individuals gain greater self-awareness of their own internal processes, and how these processes influence their sense of self, and their interaction with other people in their life.

Redecision Psychotherapy

The Redecision Therapy approach integrates the cognitive framework of Transaction Analysis Theory with the effective principles and methods drawn from Gestalt Therapy. Redecision Therapy is a powerful tool for therapeutic change. It emphasises childhood or early decisions made at a feeling position. The goal is for the client to decide to think, feel, and behave differently, in ways that they had not permitted themselves to before. To think, feel, and behave differently means changing the original Script Decision and making a Redecision.
